Good busy day, running and shopping

Standard

Rest day today.  I will hopefully do some strength workout.  16 mile run tomorrow.  eek.

I am slowly but surely figuring out this whole training plan thing and how exactly it is going to work for me.  I am finishing week 3 of the plan.  I have had a GREAT week of running this week.  Probably the best yet.  this week I decided to NOT stick completely to the plan.  but to follow it loosely.  and it’s really working for me.  I think this might work best for me for a couple reasons – 1.  it still gives me guidance on what to do, miles to run  2.  I am not feeling let down if I don’t/can’t do the prescribed workout for the day.  when I felt like I had to strictly follow the plan – I would feel like I “failed” if I didn’t do it 100% for that day.  I don’t want to feel like that.  any day that I do something to reach my goal should be a success. so, using the plan as a guide this week has given me a, fun, enjoyable, fulfilling, pain free week of running.

I had an awesome workout yesterday.  it went like this (during naptime) – the plan was 8 easy miles.  I wasn’t into that because I had to run at home on the treadmill.  no one should have to run 8 miles on that thing.  not nice.  Pre-run photo – fresh as a daisy

the other quality mirror that we have in the basement. came with the house. haven't done anything about it. who doesn't want a mirror mosaic on their wall??

Instead of 8 straight through:  I did 2 miles at 8.1mph, then jumped on the stairmaster for 10 minutes, level 20 speed intervals, back on tread for same 2 mile run, back on stepper for same interval and back to tread for 2 more miles.  6 miles total on treadmill, 20 minutes on stepper = to 3.5 miles.  done, sweaty and happy as a clam.  nothing like a good sweat.

beautiful beads of sweat. makes me happy

Quick recap of yesterday –

Luke was attacked by an elephant.

doesn't even know what hit him

I saved him.  that’s my job.  I do heroic things like that on a daily basis.

and then got dressed up in his sisters clothes.

it never ends for that poor boy.  he’s pretty happy about it.  rainbow blue puffed sleeve is a good look for him.

Alex went to school in the am.  I dropped the kids off at Gammy’s so I could go workout with a friend.  She has “hired” me to help whip her back into shape!  good times.  gives me a little taste of what it would be like to work.  I like it.

Back home in time for Alex to get home from school.  Lunch… Anna goes to school…Gammy picks up Alex to spend some quality time….Luke takes a nap….I have a stellar workout…..Alex gets home and brings me this little srumptious treat…

I know nothing about that missing chunk. no clue.

look at all those sprinkles.  and all that pink.  We love Gammy.  she likes sugar as much as Alex and I do.  I don’t care for cake too much, but I could make that frosting disappear off that cake in less than a minute.  true.  it might have been gone by 10pm last night.  maybe.

Dinner last night was a much needed simple meal.  after all of my cutting and vegetable chopping this week, I only had simple left in me.  roasted veggies and pasta.  simple and delicious.

and we're back to the horrific food pics. apologies.

if you don’t have a MISTO, you must get one.  it will save your waistline and your time when trying to coat your veggies with the perfect amount of oil for the oven.  not too much.  not too little.

That is my “love is eternal” look.  lil sis, Jaime, that’s for you.  (Bridesmaids lingo – if you have never seen this movie, go see it.  if you saw it and didn’t care for it, I feel bad for you.  you need to get a bunch of girlfriends, some margaritas and a chill pill and watch it again.  funny stuff)  I love my misto.  don’t know why I waited so long to start using it.

Dinner served – kids running amuck and I bolted.  like any good mom.  I was meeting one of my best girlfriends at the mall for some shopping.  it works out well that we share a common joy…

I haven’t been to this store since she and I went in NYC last May.  I put on a little fashion show in the dressing room for you.  so that you could share in my fabulous finds.

white coat. $16. this is why I love forever21. looks nice. it's cheap. inexpensive cheap. probably cheap cheap too, but it's $16. it must come home with me.

I got the blazer, not the shirt under it.  it’s actually much cuter in person.  so am I.

went out on a limb and got the red skinnies. color is good.

My girlfriend is a human barbie doll.  seriously.  picture barbie.  and make her human.  that’s my friend.  and she’s the nicest person in the world too.  so you want to hate her, but you end up loving her to death.  how it goes.  when I shop with her, it’s more colorful and fun than when I shop by myself.  I have to buy red things.

I came home to my husband watching Moneyball with Brad Pitt.  brad pitt wasn’t here watching it with him, he was in the movie.  the hubs and I discussed very important stuff like who was better looking – Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio or Orlando Bloom.  we decided Orlando was pretty, Leo was a freak of nature with his good looks and Brad is just a handsome guy.  enough deep talk for one night.  off to bed.

Stay tuned for another edition of “How to Friday“.  Feel free to email me suggestions of things you would like to know “how to” do.  I know everything.  I have answers to everything.  I’m a mom. if I don’t have the answer, I will just lie and pretend like I do:-)

About msfitrunner

I am a 29 year old stay at home, hardworking mom to my three little loves! My oldest little darling is 5, little sis is 4 and baby brother is almost 2. I have been married to my Mr. Wonderful for almost 7 years (ahhh!). My faith and my family is my rock, and I have a newfound LOVE for running. Maybe it's more of a necessity at this point - to maintain household peace and my own sanity, but whatever it is, it's working for me and I'm loving the racing. The vegan world has been calling my name, so I am testing out those waters as well! That's a tough one with three little picky eaters at home, but I am having fun coming up with new recipes and trying out new things. Follow along as I chronicle this crazy running life, and ALL the craziness that goes with it!

  1. Actually with my ever changing post baby body I have learned to like a few Walmart items in my wardrobe lately. Gotta check out this Forever 21 place though. I basically buy anything that fits my short- pear shaped- Beyonce big butt- body. So I am not married to anyone place for clothing. If I had mile long legs like you I’d wear any color anything that had the words skinny in it! I stick with the palate of brown, black, grey and denim for the most part! REAL exciting I know!

Last movie-MONEYBALL! Too funny! I actually would rather watch grass grow than watch Baseball (on TV). We are more basketball folks around here. But I did love that movie! NOT a Brad Pitt admirer. I like the more clean shaven sorta guy. I think between the three I’d go with Orlando although I am not sure he will age gracefully. Leo-A little over dramatic for me. My kids all know that in my alternate movie star life I am really married to Johnny Depp!

As a kid my cousins would buy me tubes of frosting for my birthday…so I guess I would say I am a frosting person! I think the cake is just there to hold the frosting up closer to my mouth?

My plans over last weekend got derailed by an emergency trip to the ER with my 11 year old that had to have his appendix taken out. It only took him three phone calls from school AFTER he had already complained at home during breakfast that his side hurt for me to go and pick him up. Yeah-Mommy badge glowing! So after quickly dumping my napping baby at home with a neighbor girl (we are on year round school so there is always a little babysitter around to help me) I was off to the ER where they immediately gave him morphine(pain..what pain?)…I am sticking with the argument that he was just trying to get out of those two tests he had on Friday. Busy day at the hospital and we had to be transferred so the surgery could be done by a pediatric surgeon so we finished up around 2:30am. My husband was out of town until dinner so I spent the better half of the day arranging childcare for my other three children. Sunday we were home when my husband calls from church to tell me dear daughter is complaining about her stomach but he was a good Dad and shooed her off (per Mom’s suggestion) to Sunday School. Yeah she came home with a 102 fever! Needless to say it was an exhausting weekend. Phew! By Wednesday we were all back at school. SOOOOOOOO long long story short….I learned to love evening workouts this week and even got out the door for a 5:45 barbell class. I am SO very much not a morning person! Today…sneezing, coughing, blech feeling Mom! Argh! I am in denial and I am NOT sick…must be the spring allergies, right?

    PS: LOVE the white jacket!!

    • whoa!!!! what a week you had!!! That’s so funny you just watched moneyball. I don’t like to watch baseball either – we aren’t really a sports family, which is kind of weird. my husband isn’t into watching sports, so I’m not and the kids aren’t. maybe someday when they are a little older they’ll be more into it. and I love Johnny Depp too, amazing! Glad everyone is on the mend, and I hope you don’t get sick!! no time for that nonsense;-) I will have to check out your blog, as well!

  2. My favorite place to shop is anthropologie but more of a splurge, so I frequent TJ the most. And I am definitely an icing freak – one year my friends who know this about me gave me a tub of icing for my birthday as a joke. Little did they know it was the best present ever!

    • Oh, a girl after my own heart – I LOVE anthropologie!!! and it’s a total splurge now for me too, even the sale stuff sometimes. But I love going in there and just looking at everything. Glad to know I’m not the only icing obsessed person! I’ve even passed it onto my daughter – she will eat the icing right off her cake and leave the cake!

  3. Good workout! I couldn’t do 8 miles on a treadmill- 30 mins tops!

I love skinny jeans. I am thinking of getting emerald green ones.

I love cake.. but more specifically cupcakes. I think it tastes different and has the perfect frosting to cake ratio 😉

  4. Those red jeans are super cute on you! I don’t think I could pull them off, but you look great! 🙂

Our weekend plans include a wedding tomorrow, church Sunday, and lots of negotiations regarding our house. We got an offer and we’ve been going back and forth with the guy … it’s stressful. Prayers are greatly appreciated! 😉

    Have a great weekend!

  5. Love Forever 21!

Last movie I saw was Underworld 3D. My husband is a Kate Beckinsale fan. It actually was pretty good!

I’m a cake person and an icing person. An all around sweets person. I’ve been known to open a new icing container just to eat the icing, too:)

    • It must be a guy thing – my husband loves Kate Beckinsale too, but it might just be the vampire teeth/dark hair look of underworld he likes?!?:-) If there is a can of icing in the house, I have no problem sticking a spoon in it and taking a bite!

  7. You know I like colored skinnies! Favorite store is J.Crew… Or Bloomingdales, or Piperlime or Zara. I could go on and on…
    Last movie was ” Contagion”
    Like cake, hate frosting.
Weekend plans include going out to 2 Hopewell (:))) Pilates, relaxing and a trip to West Farms. Ahhhh…:)). No cooking for me. We have a fridge full!

    • Ok, jealous of ALL your weekend plans, but mostly 2h and west farms! That sounds much more fun than my 16 miles!! But I’ll prob be running to the gym- maybe see you there? Or you are doing pilates, so maybe not! Have an awesome weekend!!

      Katie
