I did a similar thing as I did the other day with my strength. I love strength workouts, but for some reason I have very little attention span for them. It works well for me to hop on the stairmaster in between sets to keep me going.  Changing things up just a bit is a great way to stay focused and get a workout done that would otherwise probably not get done.  due to pure laziness.  I ended up with about 20 minutes of strength and 25 min on the stairmaster. It was a nice, fairly easy workout. I love doing my Jillian 30 day shred, but I need a couple more to throw in the rotation. I just ordered a couple on amazon. I’ll share what they are when I get them.
Here’s another great leg workout. attach a small child to your lower leg and lift.

a reason to run – muscle and strong legs. amazing. 
Kids are really great for doing things other than making a disaster of the house, fighting with each other or incessantly asking for things. use them as weights. I used to workout a lot with the kids when they were wee babes and immobile. front carrier infant = pretty stellar workout. as well as in the jogger.  no excuses. another thing that I love about my kids is the cuddle potential immediately after wake up.
I’ve got about 5 minutes of pure sweetness, then it likely turns sour pretty quickly with this guy. but it was my lucky day and he kept the mood pretty stable. crazy person.
million dollar idea – invent a compression sock for my forehead. that vein needs some help. it’s growing. go. 

we completed the afternoon with a trip to whole foods. I needed things, like I always do, and I went without a list, like I always do, so when I walked down the bulk bin aisle, I wanted a little of everything, like I always do. I chose three things, two new and one that I’ve had.
I obviously don’t know how to edit my photos. upside down pics are charming.  you would think I actually know how to blog, but I’m still learning. Be patient with me. I will pull it all together at some point.

Cranberry beans, have you ever heard of such a bean??  I had to try it. I’m one of those people that gets excited about a stellar nutrition label, like healthy fats, lots of fiber and protein and recently I’m on a potassium kick – the more the merrier. when I looked at the label on the cranberry beans I think I almost fell over, it was so fantasatic. I cant remember what it was, but the fiber and the protein were out to impress.  I’m always trying to minimize the amount of meat we eat, so finding other good sources of protein is right up there with hitting a deal on designer duds.  Kind of but not really. I’m almost confident I will not like them at first because I have no idea what to do with them, but that will not stop me. I can sautée and cook the heck out of anything. likewise with the coconut flour I purchased.  it looked like something that should be in the pantry and I totally got suckered with the HIGH FIBER screaming at me on the label. fine, fine. I will buy you, but only because I am a sucker for marketing and they know high fiber is in right now and I will surely fall for it.  I’m kind of a follower. on matters of nutrition. trying not to be.

These cute little things were also irresistible and had to be part of dinner tonight.




 multicolored spuds. yes please. I will roast those babies up and throw them together with some broccoli and cauliflower. purple potatoes are actually supposed to be really good for you. I’m not exactly sure why. my mom said she read something in an article about them. she reads about a lot of things in articles and I just listen and do what she says. purple potatoes was one of them. they were a tasty addition to my rainbow of potatoes. 




It looks like I am running a four mile race on Wednesday.  Four on the 4th, the name of the race.  Last minute races are kind of better for my tender little running heart and mind. it gives me less time to get anxious about it. I’m going to run my best run.

I am a 29 year old stay at home, hardworking mom to my three little loves! My oldest little darling is 5, little sis is 4 and baby brother is almost 2. I have been married to my Mr. Wonderful for almost 7 years (ahhh!). My faith and my family is my rock, and I have a newfound LOVE for running.   1. I love working out with my babes. They sometimes do yoga with me. We do free weights together. They’ll do any Jillian Michael’s DVD (they learned the word “ass” from her. Whoops.), they bike/razor while I run, etc. Working out with the kids may not be my best workouts as far as efficiency or even the level of training, but they’re good for my heart and I KNOW without a doubt that I’m modeling healthy lifestyle habits with them which is totally priceless.

    • I couldn’t agree more! My four year old frequently asks to do Jillian, even if I’m not doing it. I think it’s a great example, and something that they really enjoy doing with me.

  2. I need a whole foods! I am so jealous of everyone who lives near there although I bet I’d end up spending way too much $$$. Cranberry beans sound fantastic.

    I love working out with my babes. I take them to the track, bike with them, play football, whatever we can 🙂

    • I kept thinking WF would be so much more expensive, but the things that I buy at stop and shop (the “cheaper” store) are actually more expensive – like organic milk, almond milk – unless it’s on sale – so wherever I end up is where it’s bought! Trader joes – I want one of them in my town!

  3. First off, I’m a fairly new reader to your blog – and I can’t get enough of you and your kids! All of you are just so adorable. It always brightens up my day when I read your blog .. mostly when I’m bored in the office. It gives me inspiration to bust my butt in a workout later in the day. 🙂

    I’m actually doing my first 5k since February of last year! It’s on July 4th .. bright n early in the morning. I’ve been active in running since then, just lazy about actually doing races.. If I can knock it under 23 minutes, I’ll be proud of myself. We’ll see! Good luck on your race!

  4. I have heard of cranberry beans before, but I have not a clue what to do with them! I have a race tomorrow. It’s called the T-Rex 10 mile trail race ( West Michigan). They also have a Wimpy 8k race. Funny name. It’s a faun time- the medals are really big and they let you choose your t-shirt ( they have about 8 to pick from). My kids are 4.5 and 8 so they try to workout with me sometimes. Their push ups are hilarious! 😉 Have a fun and fast race tomorrow!

  5. This is the first time I have heard of cranberry beans so I don’t know what to do with them, Google it! I have just started using Adzuki Beans and I like them all though they take 2 days to soak before I can even use them, ugh! I made an Adzuki bean casserole that took forever and a day but was packed with wonderful nutrients. Got the recipe from an APP I downloaded for my new diet. Your little guy is adorable!! I love doing workouts with my little bean. If she let’s me ,she is more of a mover and a shaker then a sitter and a stander, if you get my drift! Been stroller running for the last 2 weeks and it is quite a workout, I feel so slow though and I’m forgetting how a solo fast run feels. Hoping to get one in this week!

  6. Love working out with my toddler – she accompanies me on numerous runs, often shouting at me to ‘go faster!’ Can’t work out with the newborn just yet, but his time will come. I can’t wait to get my hands on a double stroller some day…

  7. He is so stinkin cute! Good luck with the beans- I’ve never heard of them but anxious to see what you do with that and the coconut flour. I’m running a half tomorrow in Portland, OR too! Getting ready for the full this fall! Should be fun- have a great race!!!

  8. My 7 year old can do burpees and sit ups all day long!! He is always saying, “Let’s do burpees, Mom” He is making sure Mom stays fit 🙂

  9. Hey – you got me thinking about the Musha! I have a question, though. They’re billed as stability shoes. Do they seem like stability shoes to you? When I wore stability style I had knee pain. But several reviews have described the Musha as neutral. Thanks!

    • I would not put these in the stability category. I can’t do stability either. As compared to the kinvara- I would say they might give just a bit more stability, but nothing crazy. I’ve run a few fast, short races in them, 10k and under and love them. You seem to like the lighter shoe, and out of all of the mizuno lighter weight shoes, these are my favorite. I would even consider wearing them for a marathon. Good luck!!
