SMILE!!!!!

SCARY. CRAZY. IN REAL LIFE IT'S EVEN SCARIER. BUT THE GREATEST THING IN THE WORLD. HAPPY KID.

Workout –  awesome.  all there is to say about it.  the kind that I want to relive all day long.  if there was such a workout – today’s would be it.  Stairmaster/strength circuit —-> 13 minutes on master, level 20 / 3 or 4 strength exercises, repeat 4 times – stairmaster said 8.7 miles.  I believe it.  great.  after the morning craziness (breakfast, cleanup, chiclet to school, dance class) I hopped on the treadmill and did 4 miles, flat :  7:20, 6:45, 6:30, 6:10 – the last mile was hard.   really great.  best of all worlds.  little bit of run, little bit of XT, little bit of strength.  I even busted out my saucy kinvaras.  i’ve missed these little babies.  I adore them.  always do me good.

While I got my 2nd little workout in on the treadmill, the kids played.  and they actually played pretty well.  I only had to get off the treadmill 4 times instead of 13.  after I ran, I put the kids to work.  you can never start them too young.  I say.

Then I really put him to work.  vacuuming.  it was on.  he would have it no other way.  he likes to do domestic things.  either that, or I hold him while I vacuum.  I gave in.

In all seriousness – I think it’s a great thing when parents are active, and the kids see it and are part of it.  I’m not talking just active cleaning your house.  although, it is a great workout cleaning with a 28 lb-er on your hip.  Sometimes I feel guilty for taking the time to run, while they are happily playing, instead of happily playing with them.  but the honest to Goodness truth is, I don’t really want to be playing with them at that moment.  I probably would be doing something else around the house anyway.  There is plenty of fun loving happiness going on during the rest of the day.  Now, I choose to run whilst the littles are not watching TV, but playing nicely in a nice enriching, happy, good environment.  guilt be gone.  ok.  that’s what I tell myself.  but I’m pretty sure it’s accurate.  now, my kids LOVE TO RUN.  and they are young.  every summer outdoor run ends with a “run” with the kids.  they love it.  and I love that we are positively influencing them.  so stick them on a treadmill.  kidding.  you go get on a treadmill.  or put them in the gym daycare and do your thing.  they’ll be better for it too.  you may just have the next Olympian.

Quick v-day wrap up.  Commercial as it may be and somewhat disturbing to see the mass amount of men walking around the grocery store with boquets of roses last night – it is nice to celebrate the ones you love.  My 5 year old came home and told me the history of Valentines day.  I forgot.  be thankful.  we celebrated in style with a nice meat and potatoes meal.  rare in this household, and delicious.  I go up to the butcher and say, where can I find a beef tenderloin.  I don’t cook this meat ever.  please help.  he comes from behind the counter to help poor little meatless me, while my daughter is trying to do a split in the aisle right behind me – normal – and he says, “oh, it’s right here miss.  we call it filet mignon”  ok mister butcher.  at $17.49 a lb, I think I will call it supercalifragalisticexpealidocious if I want.  or beef tenderloin.  to each his own.  I bought it and cooked it.  happy v-day hubs.

I'm not a meat person, except for this. my mouth waters. so good.

We wrapped up the night with a nice romantic movie.  I finally gave in to Twilight.  my friend let me borrow the first three.  we started at the beginning.

I'm a nerd. no problem admitting that.

I make a pretty good Bella.  not sure why they didn’t cast me.  After watching the movie, I’m pretty sure I could have pulled off the one-dimensional, painful to watch Bella whatever her last name is character.  Sorry to all of you Twilight fans, but I don’t get what all the hoopla is.  Vampire Edward and Long Hairy Jacob didn’t really do it for me either.  maybe it’s because I get to see this handsome studly of a husband every day.  maybe.  it’s a theory.

I will probably give it another shot.  maybe we will watch the second one.  when we are tired of watching paint dry.  they must get better.

Coming up – chia talk, water bottles and weighty matters.  in the next days, weeks, or months.  depending on my mood.  I don’t like to put too much pressure on myself.

Twilight fan?  Harry Potter?  what movie series do you like?

Do you like steak?  Do you eat meat?

How often do you incorporate strength training?

Are you sick of candy hearts yet?

About msfitrunner

I am a 29 year old stay at home, hardworking mom to my three little loves! My oldest little darling is 5, little sis is 4 and baby brother is almost 2. I have been married to my Mr. Wonderful for almost 7 years (ahhh!). My faith and my family is my rock, and I have a newfound LOVE for running. Maybe it's more of a necessity at this point - to maintain household peace and my own sanity, but whatever it is, it's working for me and I'm loving the racing. The vegan world has been calling my name, so I am testing out those waters as well! That's a tough one with three little picky eaters at home, but I am having fun coming up with new recipes and trying out new things. Follow along as I chronicle this crazy running life, and ALL the craziness that goes with it!

  1. I dropped a couple loads of books at goodwill today…pretty heavy-count for strength training? trusting you said yes-
I like any movie series that ends in happily ever after…
been havin strange craving for mambas thank you very much AND bought a misto thing today…you are mighty persuasive woman….and yes by the way mambas were quite the easter basket staple 😉 you remember correctly. I remember reading an article once that said they make for happy happy childhood memories 😉

  2. Those are some speedy miles on the treadmill- and after a stair workout no less! Good job.

I don’t do any strength training- what do you recommend as a starter for a runner?

Twilight- the movies suck but if you read the book, you will understand the Edward obsession 😉

    • Good to know about the books! They are always better.
I would actually recommend leg workouts for strength as a starter runner. so many running injuries are from weak muscles. Squats, lunges, any good quad exercise. Calf exercises are pretty important too. and stretching!!:-) Running can cause a lot of muscle imbalances if you don’t also strengthen the muscles. I like the basics for upper body – pushups, pullups, tricp dips – I will try to do a post on it!

  3. You need to get to a race soon! I think you are definitely in 38ish minute 10K shape right now based on your treadmill workouts. And if you can do that, probably also in 18ish minute 5K shape. (In other words, I think your 2012 5K goal is pretty soft given how fast you’ve been running!) Go do it!

  4. I read all the Harry Potters, Twilights, Matched Series, Pretties series…ya pretty much teenage novel-head! The books are WAAAAAYYY better than the cheesy Twilight movies. If you read the books you’ll understand the movie obsession. Movie Series–pretty much anything that has stuff blowing up and a high body count…Mission Impossible, Bourne Identity and then there is my softer side…Princess Bride (gotta love you some ROUS) and anything by that creepy guy Woody Allen.

I do eat meat (and enjoy it) but would be a strict bean eater if it weren’t for my meat eating family.

I have to do group fitness to push myself on strength. I loved the cartoon from a few weeks ago with the couple workout. My husband always wants me to workout with him…ugh! I am more of a “strap on the headphone and let me rock out in peace” kinda workout chic. I like to be in my zone. But I do enjoy some good weights and YES I include hauling around a baby on my hip at strength training.

No candy hearts this year…need to rectify that! OOOORRR just move onto those addictive Cadbury mini-eggs! Oh gosh they will be the death of me….

I can liken what you say about exercising and your children. It dawned on me shortly after I had my second baby and it seemed I would never have quiet time to read and study my scriptures that it was VERY important that they SEE me reading so I changed my 6am study time to about 10am and study while they buzzed around me doing their thing! They will do as we do. I think it is just as important that they hear me bear my testimony about our Savior and know I have a relationship with him through prayer. It is ok that we don’t get on the ground and spend every minute of they day entertaining them but instead that we spend time being a good example to them in ALL that we do.

  5. Couldn’t even get through the first twilight… Something about overdramatic teens just starring at each other for 2 hours… Blah. Harry potter just seemed silly so I couldn’t do that one either…
Non- meat eater… But married to steak n potato husband so I still have to cook it once in a while;)
    Strength training 3 tomes a week…
No candy hearts in this house… Sugar free…I literally had to throw out a few pounds of candy from michaela’s school on Tuesday / SICK!!!

    • Sugar free is tough! Good for you!! I have been getting in some good strength training, too. I love it. Are you going to run the Colchester half?? were you able to recruit anyone to run with you? 😉

      • My brother’s fiancé just signed up! It’s her first 1/2, but she’s done the other Colchester races ( have u done the salmon river run? 5.5 mi., usually around may 10 – gorgeous and hilly, but great fun! ). I’m soooo hoping this warmer weather holds out for next weekend!!!
Sugar free HAS been a challenge, but I realized I while back I’d totally been an addict most of my life!!! I could also see the negative effects it had on my kids…we eat a lot of fruit… and if I need to sweeten I use a little honey or maple syrup – so we’re not missing out!! I wish I was one of those ‘everything in moderation’ people – but… Am not – sugar is basically my gateway drug 😉
